About Digital Graphic Files

Electronic File Format

For a list of acceptable file formats see: Electronic Files and Formats

File Format Basics

Vector art is preferred over all other artwork for hard-edge images. If you have one of these files, please send it, even if you can not open it on your computer. Photo like files or pixel images are made of a matrix of many tiny dots of color.
• Vector logos should be sent as an .eps, .ai or .pdf files.
Pixel images should be send as: .tiff or .jpeg (maximum quality) file format.

Resolution or File Size

Resolution for B&W pixel files should be 600 - 1200 dpi (dots per inch) at 100% of the final print size.
• Resolution for Color or Greyscale pixel files should be 300 - 400 DPI at 100% of the final print size.
• A sharp oversized print will also work, especially from a laser printer
• if you have a file you print from on your computer, find the file and send it!

• Send images from a website to print, they will only be 72 dpi (300 DPI needed)
• Send Copyrighted photos or materials. Be sure you have written permission to use such images.
• DO NOT Send Microsoft Publisher Files (May be exported as 300 DPI .jpeg or PDF files)

Logo Types

Color Logos may use two or more colors that are not just shades of gray. Color logos are normally used wherever full color (spot or process) printing is offered. It is usually possible to convert a color logo to a Greyscale version, but often difficult to get it from there to a one color edition. If your logo must use specific PMS (pantone matching system) colors make whoever you send it to aware of exactly what colors it uses!

This is a Greyscale Logo. It is not solid black and white, but made up of shades of black and white. It is easy to mistake a Greyscale logo for a solid black and white logo. This logo is usable on most printed products especially if full color printing is offered. If need be, we can usually convert Greyscale logos to solid black & white.

This Black and White Logo is easily identified because it is solid with no shades of gray in this type of logo. This logo is usable for virtually any type of print job! In fact it is preferred for most of our standard products. A solid black and white logo is also called a "bitmap logo".
